Regulatory Framework
The late 1990s and early 2000s saw the formalization and regulation of microfinance institutions in India. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued guidelines and recognized different types of microfinance entities, including Non-Banking Financial Companies-Microfinance Institutions (NBFC-MFIs).
